Panel Discussion

Thursday, 3 October 2019 from 12:30 – 14:00

The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) cordially invites you to attend a panel discussion on “The JCPOA and the Future of Iran’s Nuclear Program,” on Thursday, 03 October 2019, from 12:30 to 14:00 in the conference room of the Permanent Mission of Japan. Refreshments will be served at 12:15.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an agreement between Iran and the E3/EU+3 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States), was concluded in July 2015 and endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution 2231. The JCPOA establishes a range of limitations on Iran’s nuclear program along with extensive monitoring and verification measures in return for sanctions relief and economic cooperation. In May 2018, the United States announced its withdrawal from the agreement and subsequently reinstated U.S. sanctions on Iran. Iran has responded by breaching some of the JCPOA limitations, deeming European efforts to offset the effects of U.S. sanctions insufficient. The speakers will discuss the current state of affairs and efforts to save the agreement and share their views on possible further developments.

Panelists:

Dr. Stephan Klement, EU Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna
Richard Nephew, Columbia University
Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, VCDNP
