It could be years before the U.S. government next negotiates an arms control agreement with monitoring and verification measures. If critical knowledge is not transferred now, insights from those with first-hand experience negotiating and supporting arms control agreements could be lost. It is therefore essential that the U.S. government have a mechanism for capturing critical insights and lessons learned and transferring essential knowledge to the next generation. To address this gap, the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ (CSIS) Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) has launched the Arms Control Knowledge Transfer Initiative (ACKTI), a program designed to preserve knowledge through senior expert interviews and primary source archival research, to educate the next generation of arms control experts on all aspects of arms control, including negotiation, implementation, inspection, and more. Interact with our growing archive of primary source documents here, and check back soon for the first video interviews in the near future.
