On May 2, 2019, the United States announced that it would sanction any export of Iranian oil and no longer grant waivers for countries seeking to import limited amounts of Iranian crude. In recent months, the US has also designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a foreign terrorist organization and personally sanctioned the country’s Supreme Leader and its foreign minister as well as companies and individuals seeking to circumvent sanctions. Sanctions have severly impacted Iran’s economy and subsequently the average Iranian.
