Dear Friends of PONI,

2019 is in full swing and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the past 16 years. Since its inception, the program has grown significantly and those who worked to bring it together would be proud to see how far it has come. We have continued tweaking our flagship programs – the Nuclear Scholars Initiative and the PONI Conference Series – while adding new projects to the mix. We launched the Mid-Career Cadre in 2017 as a way to continue engaging with people as they further advance their careers. These programs have allowed us to connect with the next generation who have become the emerging voices in the field.

Nuclear Scholars Initiative

This year we had an increase in quality applications for our Nuclear Scholars Initiative and we are excited to announce our 2019 class for the Nuclear Scholars Initiative. Our 30 Scholars represent organizations in the government, military, national labs, nonprofits, private sector, and academia. In another exciting development, several members of this year’s class will contribute directly to PONI’s grant from the Carnegie Corporation on emerging technology and nuclear risk. The Class of 2019 met for the first time this January to hear from senior experts and break into their research teams. You can read all of the scholar’s impressive bios here.

Mid-Career Cadre

The application for the Class of 2019 Mid-Career Cadre is now open. Cadre members have the opportunity to participate in international exchanges, deep dive exercises, and much more. We encourage you to share and recommend in your networks. Find out more about the program and how to apply on our website.

Conference Series

We are delighted to kick off our public programming with a half-day conference on the future of arms control on April 3, 2019 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The event will feature panelists as well as keynote addresses by senior government officials. We will also be hosting our Capstone Conference on April 30 at STRATCOM and our summer conference at Sandia National Lab from July 9-10. More details on all our conferences are forthcoming.

Our Next Generation Nuclear Network is a great resource for upcoming events, career opportunities, and analysis from the PONI community. We hope these pages will serve as critical tools in our efforts to help the next generation. As always, please send us new opportunities you might have or events that might be of interest to our community.

Finally, stay connected with us via our PONI Newsletter or on Twitter (@csisponi), and if you’re a PONI alumni, we would love for you to tell us where you are now. Stay tuned for an alumni event in the future.

Thank you all again for your support helping to make PONI what it is today. We look forward to an exciting 2019 and we hope to engage with as many of you as possible over this year.

Best,

Rebecca
